Dental Design in Ebetsu, Hokkaido | Treatment Rooms Opening to the Northern Sky

This dental clinic is located along a busy main road in Ebetsu. Although the surrounding scenery is limited, the design takes advantage of the clear northern sky, with large windows in the treatment rooms that extend patients’ views upwards.

While shielding patients from external views, the design maintains privacy and brings light and openness into spaces that can often feel enclosed.
The goal is to create a relaxing environment that reduces stress during dental treatment.

診療室では、患者が治療台に横たわったときの視線の先を丁寧に検討しています。

仰向けになった際に自然と視線が北側へ向かい、安定した柔らかな光を湛える空が広がるよう、窓の位置と高さを計画しました。

北側の光は直射日光のような強い変化が少なく、均質で落ち着いた明るさを保ちます。
その安定した光環境のもとで、患者が視覚的にも心理的にも安心できる空間となることを目指しています。

閉鎖的になりがちな治療空間に、空という「抜け」を与えることで、身体だけでなく心もほぐれる環境をつくりました。

In the treatment rooms, careful attention was given to the patient’s line of sight while lying on the treatment chair.

When reclining, the patient’s gaze naturally turns toward the north-facing sky, where soft and stable natural light fills the space. The position and height of the windows were thoughtfully designed to frame this calm expanse of sky.

Northern light, free from harsh direct sunlight, provides an even and gentle brightness. Within this stable lighting environment, patients can feel both visually and psychologically at ease.

By introducing a sense of openness to the sky into what is typically a closed treatment room, the design creates a space that relaxes not only the body, but also the mind.
