Renewing the Existing.

The building was originally constructed approximately 25 years ago using ceramic block construction, a method commonly seen in Hokkaido at the time.
Its exterior strongly reflected the design language of that era.

The renovation period was limited to the Golden Week holidays and the days immediately before and after.
Within this short timeframe, the challenge was to transform the building’s outward image while reorganizing the interior into a brighter, more functional layout suitable for clinical treatment.

Rather than covering the façade entirely, we chose to reinterpret the existing ceramic block texture and traces, allowing them to remain while redefining the building’s identity.

Instead of adding new cladding that would require extended construction time, a structural frame was introduced around the perimeter of the building to visually reorganize its composition.

This frame integrates signage and the access ramp into a unified architectural gesture.
Rather than attaching functional elements independently, they are incorporated into a single coherent system, creating a renewed presence within a limited construction period.

Inside, natural light and circulation were carefully reconsidered to create a bright and efficient treatment environment.

The project does not erase the past; it redefines it.
Within constraints of time, the goal was a meaningful and essential transformation.
