風景と時間を受け止める別荘建築

敷地は北海道伊達市の牧場の中に位置し、牧草地の先には内浦湾、その向こうには駒ヶ岳を望む小高い丘の上にあります。海と山を同時に感じられる風景の中で、建築が強く主張するのではなく、周囲の風景を受け止める存在となることを考えました。

建物は極めてシンプルな矩形平面と三角屋根による構成としています。その素直な形態は外観だけでなく室内空間にもそのまま連続し、過度な操作を加えず、静かな佇まいをつくっています。

内部空間では梁を現し、白く塗装した天井によって光と影のコントラストが生まれるよう考えました。また、壁やドア、板張り壁も白で統一しながら、わずかに赤みを加えることで、内浦湾へ沈む夕景の色が室内へ柔らかく広がる空間としています。

素材についても、時間とともに変化していくことを前提として選定しています。自然素材ならではの隙間や塗装のかすれも、均質な新しさではなく、時間の積み重なりを感じられる表情の一部として捉えています。

床には魚の骨を図化したヘリンボーンを採用しました。「ICON」という名前にふさわしい象徴性を持たせるとともに、素材本来の質感が感じられるよう濡れ色にならない塗装仕上げとしています。

外壁にも経年変化を前提とした素材を選択しています。一般的には保護することが多い板張り外壁ですが、レッドシダーを採用し、妻側の五角形の家型には軒を設けず、風雨にさらされながら時間を刻んでいくことを考えました。

また周囲の厩舎と屋根勾配を揃えることで、建築だけが独立した存在になるのではなく、この牧場風景の一部となることを目指しています。

建築が風景の一部となり、静かに歳月を重ねていくことを考えた別荘です。

Designing a Villa that Embraces Landscape and Time

ICON is located on a hilltop pasture in Date, Hokkaido, overlooking Uchiura Bay with Mount Komagatake beyond. Within this landscape where both sea and mountains can be experienced simultaneously, the intention was not for the architecture to dominate its surroundings, but rather to quietly receive and coexist with the landscape.

The building is composed of a simple rectangular plan and a pitched roof volume. This straightforward form extends naturally into the interior spaces, creating a calm architectural presence without unnecessary gestures.

Inside, exposed beams and white-painted ceilings enhance the contrast between light and shadow. Walls, doors, and wood surfaces are unified in white, while a subtle warm tone was introduced so that the colors of the sunset over Uchiura Bay softly spread throughout the interior.

Materials were selected with the idea that change over time should be embraced rather than avoided. Small gaps in natural materials and the texture of hand-applied finishes were considered part of the building's character, allowing the space to gain depth and familiarity over time.

The flooring uses a herringbone pattern inspired by the form of fish bones, creating a symbolic element connected to the project's name, “ICON.” Finishes were selected to preserve the original appearance and texture of the materials.

The exterior materials were also chosen with aging in mind. Red cedar cladding was intentionally left exposed to weather on the gable surfaces without eaves, allowing time and climate to gradually leave their marks on the building.

Roof slopes were aligned with the surrounding barns so that the architecture could become part of the wider pastoral landscape.

The villa was designed with the intention that the architecture becomes part of the landscape, quietly accumulating time together with its surroundings.
